Drawbacks

Poor Narration

Audiobook narrators whom the listener has difficulty connecting with can negatively affect the listening experience (O’Connell, 2013).

Lack of Control

Author John Green stated, “When you listen to an audiobook, you don’t have sovereignty over what you’re reading. You don’t choose how to scan the page...you don’t have the option to skip things. You can’t get a third of the way through a long paragraph and decide to go to the next indent” (2012).

Distraction

Audiobook listening while driving proves disruptive in complicated driving environments (Nowosielski, Trick, and Toxopeus, 2006)

Availability

According to library clerk, K. Phillips, school media centers that depend on digital content services to provide audiobooks limits home usage to students who possess Internet access (personal communication May 3, 2019).
